and so i was feeling a little down today because of unfortunate events last weekend, and then just a moment ago i came across one of my favorite lines from Eat, Pray, Love:

Lord, please help me memorize this feeling of contentment and help me always to support it.

i've always made that prayer every time i am feeling satisfied with my life. that i wish that kind of feeling would be etched in my memory so i can always go back to it and be inspired by it when i am feeling a little sad. it may be hard to remember that feeling of contentment when your heart is crying but it is worth a try. remember, happiness is a choice. so now i am in the process of going back to that feeling of happiness. of how it feels like to be content. i know someday, not too long from now that i will finally have that kind of feeling again. :)

somewhere along our life's journey, we lose people close to our hearts.not the kind who pass away in this world, because that is beyond our control. the kind of people im talking about here are those who chose to leave us for reasons we may not understand yet, but definitely because its part of the plan.

now when i was younger and immature, i tend to sulk at these partings.it took me a long time to finally get over it. i had separation anxiety.big time.

going through life experiences like these has definitely made me a stronger person.reading books and having constant dialogues with sensible people has also helped me a lot in managing difficult situations.

now i realized that we really should not feel bad about the people who leave us.how about putting yourself in their shoes and try to see things based from their perspective? yes, they chose to leave because its the best thing to do. we may not understand it yet when the pain is still fresh, but someday it will all make sense. and the most important thing i learned is that dont force people to stay when they've already made a decision to go. in fact, you should initiate it when you begin to notice that they are not happy anymore. they will love you more for that, trust me. i am proud to say that i am beginning to master this it is almost an art.

so i thank those who left, for the memory they have left behind. and the moments shared with them.but more importantly, for the lessons learned and for taking part in making me a better person.

whenever i am just at home working, my days are not distinguished by weekdays and weekends. every single day when i get up, i immediately turn on the laptop and open Outlook, type in my password and wait for mails to load. open chrome, sign in to meebo, facebook, yahoo and google mail. while all these are loading, i go out and play with kooki for a bit, then prepare breakfast.i eat in front of the laptop.almost always.then i start working while taking calls and chatting with friends in between.

every single day, it has always been like that. i am getting bored. i miss the times when i go to the office and meet officemates. discuss project direction with the bosses, consult research methods with peers and enjoy lunch with them.i miss being in charge of a project.the challenge of making a proposal look good enough to get funding, and managing the budget when you finally get it. i love the feeling of reporting about your research output and somehow having an influence on policies.

back when i was still doing that job, i also thought of changing careers especially during difficult times. i had thought of going into IT, of becoming a chef. i even considered the idea of becoming a tour guide because of my wanderlust!

being in the corporate world now made me realize that i need not need to change careers. because social research and rural development is where happiness is. funny because i had to move away from it to make me realize that its all i wanted to do after all.

dealing with change

This is a simple story about two sets of personalities and how they deal with change. One has a very simple outlook in life, the other has a tendency to overanalyze each situation. So when their "cheese" (anything that makes us happy, be it work, relationship, etc) was gone from where they usually got it, they each take a different path to finding cheese nirvana.
so as expected, the simple guy took off right after he realized there was no cheese anymore.he buckled up and started looking for cheese in other "cheese stations." now the complicated guy, who had made his cheese station his comfort zone took painful steps coming out of his shell to look for new cheese. this is his journey.
Some fear can be good. When you are afraid things are going to get worse if you don't do something, it can prompt you into action. But it is not good when you are so afraid that it keeps you from doing anything.
Whenever he started to get discouraged, he reminded himself that what he was doing, as uncomfortable as it was at the moment, was in reality much better than staying in the cheeseless situation. he was taking control, rather than simply letting things happen to him.
it is safer to search in the maze, than remain in a cheeseless situation.
what you are afraid of is never as bad as what you imagine. the fear that YOU let build up in your mind is worse that the situation that actually exists.
he realized that the cheese had not just disappeared overnight as he had once believed. the amount had been getting smaller, mold may even have begun to grow. he now realized that the change probably would not have taken him by surprise if he had been watching what was happening all along and if he had anticipated change.
smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old.
he realized the fastest way to change is to laugh at your own folly -- then you can let go and move on quickly. he learned something useful about moving on from the simple guy.he kept life simple. when the situation changed, he changed and moved with it.
you could be more aware of the need to keep things simple, be flexible, and move quickly.
you did not need to overcomplicate matters or confuse yourself with fearful beliefs.
youl could notice when the little changes began so that you would be better prepared for the big change that might be coming.
he realized that there is always New Cheese out there whether you recognize it at the time, or not. and that you are rewarded with it when you go past your fear and enjoy the adventure.

he had even found a better part of himself. :)

i plan to take a breather next year. quit my job and then just travel around the country, even around the world if i can.but i wont be just travelling -- because the more exciting part is to take on odd jobs. these are the jobs which i so wanted to try but was discouraged because they dont pay well.so here's my bucket list for next year:

tour guide -- live in an island and become the best tour guide evor!
service crew -- in a nice pasta/pizza restaurant and learn how they prepare their dishes
dog walker -- i love dogs, period
sales agent -- id like to see if im good at selling

parang eat, pray, love lang ang drama ni ateh. :P

i have always been with a bad temper. a little disappointment and i will bitch about that for long. but lately though, i have made conscious efforts to be positive always. sure, shit still happens along the way but what good would that do to you if you dwell on it?and please, dont drag people into your misery. i know some unhappy people who rejoice at seeing people fail. lonely, unattached people feel bitter about their so-called friends who have found happiness with their partners. they even insist on that friend that "hey, he's no good, you better break up with him.. yadayada.."

dealing with various personality types have made me realize a lot of things. good friends also added a great deal of wisdom on how to properly handle such personalities. well sometimes, Sun Tzu also comes in. Haha.

someone not giving you enough attention? let him/her be. why would you insist yourself on someone? let them take their time. and in the process, divert your attention to people or activities that make you happy. and when they come back, you should have had a stronger hold of yourself. a little less clingy perhaps?

for people who are bitter about your happiness, let them rot in their miserable world.haha. you cannot infect positive vibes on a person who chose to be unhappy, period. i heard someone say that its not actually about you but their insecurities that drive them in hating you. so its their issue and not yours. wag mo na lang patulan because in the process you will be dragged in their bitter world too. instead shut them out of your system as much as you could. dont let insecurities and bitterness get into you.

while it may sound hard to remain kind when dealing with difficult personalities, it can actually affect positive results in the end. treat each encounter as a challenge to yourself. on how far your patience would stretch. on how far you can tolerate these people. delight in small wins because in the end that would make them a little hostile towards you.

as i write this, i just had a small victory with a difficult person. she always grills me on things, always on the lookout for my mistakes. she also has a habit of using her authority when she herself commits inconsistencies that i point out. and then today, miracle of all miracles, she somehow agreed to my suggestion over an issue. how did i do that? Kindness kills. :)

i am so furious right now that i would gladly want to cut, slit, and slash his throat all at the same time with a cutter!

when i was applying for my dsl connection, the sales agent told me that they only need my ID for it to get approved. convenient, huh? now when i was browsing their website a few days after i got wired, i read that i am actually entitled to a free wifi modem. so i called up the sales agent and this was our conversation:

me: kuya, may free wifi modem pala yung plan ko?
sales agent (SA): ay opo ma'am. kaso kailangan pa po kasi ng proof of income kapag ganun eh.
me: bakit hindi mo sinabi nung nag-apply ako?
SA: actually ma'am dine-discourage na po namin mga clients kasi nga mas matagal ang processing kapag kailangan niyo pang mag-produce ng proof of income
waaaaaat????
me: still, you should have told me!what if may proof of income ako dito?
SA: naku ma'am hindi na po pwede kasi na-approve na yung application niyo
tangnangsyet!
me: that's unfair!i am entitled to that and you should have informed me so i would have produced the necessary documents!
SA, cutting me short from my impending rants: ma'am bumili ka na lang, ang kuripot mo naman
me: *censored* he received a good amount of swearing from a smorgasbord of expletives that i am sure was his first time to hear such words

sometime ago there was jun lozada.now its george rabusa and heidi mendoza on the hot seat. all three exposed corruption in the government, risking their families' lives in the process. im sure there are a lot more public servants out there who did the same. they may not be as prominent as these people but they all had a common goal, and that is to rid the evils of government. hoping that their sacrifices will somehow result to a more dignified bureaucracy. as i watched the evening news, i cant help but admire mendoza for her dedication to public service especially when she said that she is only accountable to the filipino public and no one else. thank you, ms. mendoza. as a taxpayer myself, i must say i deeply appreciate your efforts. giving justice to our hard earned money. on the other hand, i myself feel like i sacrificed some things for my family while i was still in government, but that is panis compared to what you're doing right now. i can only imagine what you are going through, having the kind of stress i felt, only that yours is a thousand times over.i pray for you and your family, that someday you will lead a normal life again.

ever since i started work at home, my mom has since heard me talk to clients, argue with courier staff and saw me walk like a zombie during production period. during these times, she is ever supportive. cooking meals, fighting the urge to nag me about my disastrous room and even arranging for my laundry to be washed. in between these periods, she has also been one of the people who were unwillingly dragged to check out a far-flung beach just to satisfy my urge for adventure. she was consistently complaining while on the way, but when we got to our destination, she screamed with us in delight when we first saw the crashing waves in surip. way to go, Ma!wanna go ziplining with us next? :)

one of the first assignments i did for the gender and development team of philrice is a primer on gender sensitive language which the group later published for all staff and partner agencies.

i wanted to share some of the examples we cited since i've been observing that most people use terms which are not gender sensitive. while i cannot blame these people for lack of consciousness, this piece aims to encourage the use of gender-sensitive terms to help eliminate stereotypes among genders.

According to the Primer on Gender-Fair Language published by the University of the Philippines' Center for Women Studies, sexism in language is the use of words that devalues members of one sex, almost invariably women, thus fostering gender inequality. me, in a defiant tone: from the dorm to the office! (who doesn't, right?)

One is the Marcoses winning, and winning big time. Imelda will be a representative, Imee a governor, and Bongbong a senator.

On the other hand, Loren Legarda will not be a vice president. That is not a non-sequitur.

Loren lost because she teamed up with Manny Villar, the one person she had been attacking in the Senate for corruption. Almost immediately after she did, the phrase “politics of prostitution” flew thick and fast in cell phones and Facebook. Which probably just added insult to injury, as the surrender of virtue for money was plain for all to see.

She should have taken her cue from Tito Sotto and Tessie Oreta who lost in the 2007 elections for roughly the same thing. Sotto was with the FPJ camp (he was FPJ’s campaign manager in 2004) when he suddenly bolted and joined President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the one person who had stolen “Da King’s” crown. The voters punished him for it in the elections.

But there’s a caveat to that. Both lost not because they turned their backs on friend or principle but because they did it too soon. Juan Ponce Enrile and Miriam Santiago did the same thing and far more epically, vowing undying loyalty to Arroyo after vowing undying loyalty to Joseph “Erap” Estrada. But they ran for senator years after the fact. They won then, and they’ve won now.

As has Sotto now. And as have the Marcoses now, the family that betrayed democracy.

The good news is that Filipinos do not like people who betray. The bad news is that Filipinos do not like people who betray—until after some time. Then they forget about it.

Two is Willie Revillame, Dolphy and Manny Pacquiao losing, and losing big time. Or Pacquiao at least in the endorsing department—he himself appears headed for a win in his province, though only by split decision. All three endorsed Villar, only to see him lose, and lose big time.

Maybe we’re maturing. If it wasn’t patent before, it should be patent now. Entertainers may still be able to sell snake oil, but they may no longer be able to sell snakes. Or they may still be able to sell defective cars but they may no longer be able to sell defective candidates.

My heart bleeds for Dolphy, who has had to settle for all sorts of things to make ends meet. I don’t begrudge him selling Villar, heaven knows we owe him big time for making us laugh all these years. My blood boils at Revillame, hell knows he owes us big time for adding whole new dimensions to the holes in asses.

Three is how a lot of things in this country invite theological interpretations. The epic fall from grace with the voters experienced by Loren Legarda, Manny Villar, and Mar Roxas after an initial or extended honeymoon period with them is one of them.

Loren suffered her free fall at the beginning of things because she redefined atat-na-atat, craving the vice presidency so badly that she was willing to do pretty much anything to get it. Hers was the sin of lust.

Villar suffered his free fall in the middle of things because his profligacy backfired on him, subverting the image of being one with the poor his campaign tried to pitch. Manny became associated with money, which lost him his honey. His was the sin of greed.

Roxas suffered his free fall at the end of things because he kept reaching for things beyond his grasp, or means. Or because he kept trying to be more than he was. From the start, he was never comfortable with being the junior partner in the campaign and kept trying to be the guy in charge. Forgetting, or scorning, the fact that the only reason his numbers soared (he was stuck in the cellar before then) was that he sold himself as the katuwang in the Edsa masquerading as an election by sacrificing his presidential ambitions for a grand cause. He dropped the Edsa story and, while holding on to his Edsa-given lead, even started quietly dropping the partnership, his fawners telling him he made a mistake giving up his presidential bid. While they themselves dreamt of carving up between themselves the empire that lay so tantalizingly close.

Jojo Binay not very quietly picked up what had been thrown away like a used condom. Lo and behold, it fit.

By the time Roxas realized what was happening and tried to re-forge the original bond, spending his last week wearing yellow instead of blue and sticking to the senior partner in the Edsa masquerading as an election like glue, it was too late. His is the sin of pride.

Cardinal sins get to be punished with weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Four is the epidemic of concessions that has struck the candidates. First there was Villar who scored points with Facebook and Twitter, if not with the voters, by acknowledging he was beat, he would lick his wounds and/or dedicate his time to repairing his badly tarnished image. Then came Gibo Teodoro and Dick Gordon conceding as well, Gibo begging Noynoy to tend to the poor as he presumably would have done, and Dick wishing the new president well while taking a well-earned dig at the disbelievers of automation in general and Smartmatic in particular. (I stand chastised.) Then came Loren who made a pre-campaign speech for 2016 by enumerating her accomplishments before relinquishing the field to Binay.

It used to be that there were only two types of people at the end of Philippine elections: the winners and the cheated. Suddenly, we saw a scene we never thought we’d see very soon, or at all, in these shores, not unlike John McCain congratulating the first black president of America. Well, as the joke goes, Mar may soon be congratulating the first black vice president of the Philippines. All this augurs well for the future of Philippine elections.

Again while getting indigestion from the words I am eating, I take my hat off to Jose Melo.

Five is the biggest twist of all: We actually had clean elections, and Arroyo is actually finally going.

an unexpected trip in cagayan

was in isabela and cagayan last week to assist in fgd activities with irri collaborators.had a bit of free time so we went exploring callao cave in penablanca town, just a 30-minute drive from tuguegarao city.

getting to callao cave can be a bit hard because of lack of where-to signs.we actually got lost on the first try.there are two routes, one is where you get off from the Pinacanauan Riverbank and rent a boat that would take you across and and from there take a flight of stairs up on the jump off point.the other route is where you go directly to the registration area and get a safe parking space for the vehicles.

one has to pay Php20 as entrace fee and can enlist the help of a tour guide.an english-speaking tour guide.lufet!we would ask him questions in tagalog and answer back in english.haha.some of the interesting facts we learned from him:

callao is pronounced as "kal-law," taking from the kalaw bird;

the cave has seven chambers with interesting rock formations;

the first chamber holds the chapel, with a grotto of the Our Lady of Lourdes at the top. cave weddings can be held there;

stalactites are a type of dripstones which hangs from the ceiling of limestone caves, while stalagmites are the opposite;

they grow an inch in 40 years;

experts are still exploring additional chambers;

one has to take close to 200 steps to go up the mouth of the cave

the cave is not the only tourist attraction in the area.getting there is a visual treat in itself.there's this barangay where horse-drawn kalesas are their mode of transportation.it has a very magical feeling to it! =) it was harvest time in the area so the fields are of beautiful golden brown.some folks were also busy drying their palay on the main road which made it a perfect scenery with tall coconut trees lining up the side of the road.

too bad i was't able to borrow a good camera for the trip.i only had to rely on my SE G705's 3.2mp camera so all pictures were post processed.

every time i go home in manaoag, i always swing by CB Mall in Urdaneta City to buy yum yum cheese pesto pandesal from Pan de Manila. their store is just across National Bookstore so when i was on my way home for the lenten holiday, i had enough time to check some books.there were two tables that greeted customers as they entered the store, stacked with several books for sale.as i neared it, i noticed several familiar books just by looking at the covers.picked up The Kite Runner and was so surprised to see it was on sale for P50. when i lined up at the counter my shopping cart was full of books that the girl at the counter was like, "wow!" so here's a look at my haul:

some of the books did not have the regular price on them, so i just googled their prices.was so surprised when my calculations showed me i had actually saved more or less P8400 for 15 books.ang saya! =)

so far i've finished reading dave pelzer's story in A Child Called "It." was so heartbreaking reading about his abusive childhood, but also heartwarming as he chronicles his way to healing. an excerpt from the publisher:

"He had to learn how to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him a son, but a slave; and no longer a boy, but an "it."

currently i am reading The Healing Cut, a collection of essays written by surgeons at the PGH.it is a very insightful book.i especially loved the chapter on "Healing the Healer," or something like that, where several surgeons talk about their realizations when they themselves were the patients.the central thought was that, before they were sick, some of them regarded their patients as just numbers and wrote in their charts without actually taking into consideration how their patients felt.some also realized that prior to getting sick, they were so caught up with the pressures at work, that sometimes they took their families for granted.but as they battled for their illnesses, they were faced with their own mortality and rebuilt their relationships with their families and to God.they lived to tell their stories and have since then carried on a more humane medical practice.

there are moments in my life when God and I disagree with our plans for my life.whenever that happens, i stubbornly insist on what i want.sometimes he lets me be, but more than once i fail.and then He sneaks into my life as if saying, "sinasabi ko na nga ba eh.tigas kasi ulo.haysh." and then as if with a sigh again, He helps me pick up the pieces and life goes on.of course with a few extra loads of added wisdom and lessons learned from the resistance period.

the reason for this muni-muni thought is because i am experiencing it again.i wanted something to happen to my life so badly that i started acting irrational and walang EQ again.i felt i was going into a plateau; status quo.i felt life should be full of nonstop fireworks and loud bangs. in fact, i was bitching on someone because i thought that person could give me what i wanted.classic brat drama.

and then somewhere along the way, i saw a glimmer of hope that i could still probably get what i want but that i have to wait a little longer.and this cool God of ours even managed to arrange a few things to keep me busy during the waiting period.He even gave me some bonus workloads that i could use for that something that i wanted. He also shoved me into the right path since i was going counterflow in a one way lane with no exits.

this day was spent making makeovers in my triple w life.i overhauled templates for my chrome, firefox and of course this blog.and being an OC, i spent half of the day doing just that.

i love the new theme of this blog by the way.it still has that sunshine-y and summer-y feel to it.and its not done yet.am planning to add new pics in the sidebar column.

am using firefox as i am writing this.but i figured i would have to go back to chrome tomorrow.nothing beats its minimalist feature.

i bought two male fighting fish yesterday. para naman may signs of life sa room namin.jean and i are slowly becoming cyborgs with tons of work.

i havent got a name for them yet.so for now, the darker guy is F1 and the other one is F2.para lang household serial number yan ni kuya dop. =)

what i like about them is that they are low maintenance.they don't need an aerator because they are air breathers.they also need just FOUR pellets a day.i remember kenshin (our white rat when i was still in college) died because of overfeeding.so lets stick to 4 pellets for these guys aight?

they say pets relieve stress.lets see kung sino ang mas mai-stress.kung sila ba o ako.hahaha.

This is a story about truth, beauty, freedom; but above all things, this story is about love.

The heroine says to the hero, “Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of your time.” But the hero leaves her standing outside a run-down coffee shop in Manila. He strides away, prepared to sacrifice himself to a distinctly sane, unexceptional and rather dull relationship with a girl named Connie Cruz who wears khakis and white button-downs.

The hero eventually dumps the poor, unappreciated Connie and races back to our heroine, (named Sylvia) who welcomes him with open arms. Together, they decide to embark on the greatest adventure of all, a love that will undoubtedly be madly, passionately and extraordinarily perfect—leading of course to a house in Forbes Park, 2.5 children and incredible sex.

I’m going to show you what happens to the fairy tale—after our hero leaves his Connie to fall into Sylvia’s open arms. He becomes Prince Charming and Zorro rolled into one, ready to fight his way through dragons, bandits and MMDA patrols to reach the sleeping princess. He jumps into his car and races down the streets of Metro Manila, dodging buses and pink railings. He rushes up the flight of stairs to Sylvia’s apartment and, panting, pounds on her door. She opens it, and her face breaks out into a smile of pure, unadulterated joy. She tries to pull him into her arms, but he holds back.

“Wait,” he says. “Wait. I want it to be special.”

His face becomes serious. He takes her hand. "I'm just a boy, standing in front of a girl... asking her to love him."

She looks at him, saying nothing. He begins to feel afraid. With Connie, there are no moments of uncertainty like this. Then Sylvia throws her arms around him, and Connie is forgotten.

“You had me at hello,” Sylvia says, with her head buried against his neck. “You had me at hello.”

She lets him in. He strokes her hair, runs his hand down her arm. She laughs. "I appreciate this whole seduction thing you've got going on here, but let me give you a tip: I'm a sure thing."

So there they are, the hero and Sylvia, living life like a box of chocolates, ready to face any moment, as long as they could do it together. Sylvia gets out of her little apartment and moves in with our hero. She starts wearing khakis and white button-downs, waking up early to make breakfast and asking him if he’s had dinner. He enjoys the fussing, and they settle into a routine. “Take care,” she’d say. “I’ll be back,” he would reply, with a kiss on the forehead and an accompanying squeeze of the hand. He drives away with a smile on his face. This, he thinks, is as good as it gets.

But I know this hero—and the story doesn’t end here.

He meets someone else; someone who shows him that life can still be exciting. He is swept away by the thrill of the unexpected. He is in love. “If you love someone,” the woman tells him, “You say it. You say it right then, out loud, or the moment just... passes you by.”

He doesn’t say it. He says, “I’m with someone else.”

He goes home to Sylvia, answers her questions about his day and compliments her on dinner. He looks at her. And he remembers. Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of your time.

I can’t tell you if he still loved Sylvia—I don’t know. But suddenly, his “I’ll be back,” turns into “Hasta la vista, baby.”

Sylvia begs him to stay. “You can’t handle the truth,” he says. Tears fill her eyes. He grips her shoulders, looks at her.

“I think I’m in love with someone else,” he explains. He strokes her hair. “Remember what we said before? When people are in love, time, distance... nothing could separate them because they knew. It was right. It was real. It was—“

“A movie! That's your problem! You don't want to be in love. You want to be in love in a movie!” Her hand streaks up to slap his cheek. Then she stands still, shocked.

She steps back. “I didn’t mean it,” she says. ”It’s just that—it’s just so sudden. Don’t you think that maybe…maybe it’s just a passing thing? Infatuation? They say even the best relationships have their downs. We can forget about this.” She smiles bravely.

He pulls back, his face expressionless. “I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it.”

The tears fall now. Sylvia clings to him. “Please. Please. I love you. Don’t leave me. It seems right now that all I've ever done in my life is making my way here to you. Believe me. ”

You’ll wonder why I know this story.

I met him long ago, long before this story began. It was one fine day. I was still in college, walking around my University. Maybe it was fate, destiny, I don’t know. I tripped. Suddenly a pair of strong arms encircled my waist.

“Swoon,” he said. “I’ll catch you.”

I knew he was the one for me. I was never surer of anything before—this kind of certainty comes but once in a lifetime. I knew he felt it too. He admitted it, told me he loved me. But he was with someone else back then too. I don’t remember her name, maybe it was Connie.

“Why can't we be together?” I’d ask.

He’d look at me wistfully. “You want to know why? Because I don't trust myself with you. You’re exciting, different—I love you. You are the epitome of everything I have ever looked for in another human being. Maybe I don’t deserve you. But there’s always her I have to think about. She loves me. I can’t hurt her.”

There is fate, but it only takes you so far, because once you're there, it’s up to you to make it happen. I tried to convince him to leave her, that what we had was worth it. I said that love is like oxygen; that love is a many-splendored thing; that love should lift us up where we belong—all we need is love!

He left her, that Connie—and came running up the stairs of my apartment to hammer at my door. I knew who it was even before I threw it open. i am so tired. i feel like i've been running around for god knows how long that its starting to take its toll on my health. the last time i came back from misamis occidental i had a fever, a sore throat and aching muscles. most friends tell me i am lucky to be travelling, but when you're always on the road and changing airports, hopping on and off different types and sizes of aircraft, it ain't so cool anymore.i missed my bed, of waking up sunday mornings for a hot, home-cooked meal. hell, i even missed cafeteria food!

now im back at the office once again. but i still cant have that rest, the kind of rest na petiks lang maghapon. there are survey returns waiting to be encoded, processed and analysed. powerpoint presentations that need to be done, reports that need to be passed to project leaders. and just before christmas break, id have been gone to pampanga, south cotabato and sultan kudarat, probably even isabela again.

i cant wait to hibernate.

Tatagalugin ko na nang makuha n’yo. Kahit na lingwaheng kanto lang ang alam kong Tagalog.

Tutal Buwan ng Wika naman ang Agosto. Baka sakali ’yung paboritong wika ni Balagtas ay makatulong sa pag-unawa n’yo dahil mukhang ’yung paboritong wika ni Shakespeare ay lampas sa IQ n’yo. Kung sa bagay, ang pinakamahirap gisingin ay ’yung nagtutulug-tulugan. Ang pinakamahirap padinggin ay ’yung nagbibingi-bingihan. Ang pinakamahirap paintindihin ay ’yung nagmamaangmaangan. Bueno, mahirap din paintindihin ’yung likas na tanga. Pero bahala na.

Maliit lang pala ang P1 million (at P750,000), bakit hindi n’yo na lang ibigay doon sa pamilya ng mga sundalong namatay sa Mindanao? Magkano ’yung gusto n’yong ibigay sa bawat isa? P20,000? Sa bandang huli, buti na rin lang at ginawa n’yo ’yung magpasasa sa P1 million dinner habang lupaypay ang bayan sa kagutuman—di lang sa kawalan ng pagkain kundi sa iba pang bagay—at pagdadalamhati sa yumaong Ina ng Bayan. Binigyan n’yo ng mukha ang katakawan. Katakawang walang kabusugan. Mukhang di nakita ng masa sa usaping NBN, mukhang di nakikita ng masa sa usaping SAL. At buti na rin lang mayroon tayong sariling wika. Di sapat ang Inggles para iparamdam sa inyo ang suklam na nararamdaman namin sa inyo. Di sapat ang Inggles para ipakita sa inyo ang pagkamuhi na nararamdaman namin sa inyo. Di maarok ng Inggles ang lalim ng poot na nararamdaman namin sa inyo.

‘May araw din tayo’

Sabi mo, Gary Olivar, magpakalalaki si Noynoy, huwag na nyang punahin ang boss mo. Sabi mo rin, politically mature na tayo, di na dapat ginagamit sa pulitika ang mga salitang “Good vs. Evil” or “Kabutihan laban sa Kasamaan.”

Payong kapatid, p’re, easy ka lang sa salitang “mature.” Di ka gaanong kapanipaniwala pag nagpapasya ka kung ano ang mature at ano ang hindi. Hindi na ko magpapayo na easy ka rin lang sa paghamon sa ibang tao na magpakalalaki, bahala ka lang magnilay-nilay tungkol dyan sa harap ng salamin.

Meron pa bang mas immature kesa sa sagot mo kay Noynoy? Obvious naman na ang pinanggalingan nyan ay ang kulturang macho na nagsasabing ’wag kang papatol, o makikipagaway, sa babae kung tunay kang lalaki. Kung ganun lang ang deskarte n’yo, uminom na lang kayo ng gin hanggang sa machoka. ’Yang machong kulturang ’yan ay matagal nang ibinasura ng taongbayan sa tulong ng women’s groups dahil sa mababang pagtingin sa kababaihan. Kunyari nagtatanggol sa mga babae, sa totoo ay sinisiraan ang mga babae.

Kayo lang naman ang nakakakita ng babae o lalaki sa usaping ito. Lahat naman ng Noypi ay nakikita lang ang tama o mali sa usaping ito. Pero pinag-uusapan din lang natin ang babae at lalaki, masisisi mo ba si Noynoy kung sabihin nyang nakalimutan yata ng dating titser nya ang mga itinuro sa kanya? Dahil meron din syang naging titser na babae, di hamak na mas magaling, at ni minsan ay hindi nakalimutan ang mga itinuro. ’Yan ay si Cory.

At pinaguusapan din lang natin ang lalaki at babae, sino naman ang me sabi sa yo na ang boss mo ay babae? Dahil galit na galit na sinasabi sa ’kin ng mga kaibigan kong babae, “Hindi namin kaano-ano ’yan.”

Tingnan natin kung di sapul ng “Good vs. Evil” ang labanang ito:

Huwag na tayong magpa-cute pa at diretsuhin na lang: Ang boss mo ay sinungaling. Sino ba ang mahilig magpanggap na madasalin, laging nagpaparetrato habang nakaluhod at mataimtim na nananalangin kay—bahala ka nang magsabi kung Kanino. Sino nga ba ang mas sincere sa kanilang dalawa ng aso na ganyan din ang posing? Sino ba ang lumamon ng kung anu-ano sa New York at nagsabing: (1) Di nangyari yon, (2) Nangyari yon pero di ganun ang bill, (3) Ganun ang bill pero si Martin Romualdez naman ang nagbayad, (4) Ayos lang yon dahil marami namang nagpakasasa?

Sino ba ang nagsabing hindi sya tatakbo sa 2004?

Sa kabilang banda, eto si Noynoy na pinalaking maayos ng mga magulang. Nagsabing magdadasal, tapos magdedesisyon. Nagdasal, tapos nagdesisyon. Kung ano’ng sinabi, yon ang ginawa. Paminsan-minsan siguro nangangako sa GF na darating nang maaga pero nale-late. Pero pwede na nating palampasin yon.

Ano’ng tawag mo dyan? Di ba Tama laban sa Mali? Di ba Makatotoo laban sa Peke? Di ba Good vs. Evil?

Ang boss mo ay mandaraya. Sino ba ang paulit-ulit na tumawag kay Garci noong bilangan para makalamang ng 1 million boto kay FPJ, at nakalamang nga ng 1 milyon boto kay FPJ? Sino ba ang gumawa ng batas na nagsasabing walang maaaring magsabi na nandaya sya nang wala niyang pahintulot? Sino ba ang nagtago sa “executive privilege” para hindi managot sa bayan kung sya nga ang mastermind ng NBN?

Sino ba ang me mga anak na di makapagpaliwanag ng mga ari-arian sa San Francisco?

Sa kabilang banda, eto si Noynoy na walang record na nandaya sa Kongreso at Senado. Na may nanay na paulit-ulit na pinangaralan silang magkakapatid sa pagiging matapat. Na nagbigay ng halimbawa sa pag-ingat sa mga kagamitan sa Malakanyang dahil “’yan ay pag-aari ng taongbayan.” Paminsan-minsan siguro, nandadaya rin si Noynoy sa dieta at nage-extra rice. Pero pwede na rin nating palampasin yon.

Ano’ng tawag mo dyan? Di ba Tama laban sa Mali? Di ba Katinuan laban sa Kabuktutan? Di ba Good vs. Evil?

Ang boss mo ay mandarambong. Sino ba ang naturingan ng World Bank na pinaka corrupt na leader sa buong Asya? Sino ba ang nangutang ng higit pa kay Fidel Ramos at Erap combined, pero walang mapakain sa taongbayan, ang ramdam na ramdam lang ni Juan ay gutom? Sino ba ang pabyahe-byahe at tumatrato sa buwis ni Juan bilang pocket money? Sino ang nagkorap sa lahat ng institusyon ng demokrasya, ang Kongreso, ang Korte, ang Comelec, ang Simbahan, ang Sundalo? Sino ang gumawa ng tama sa mali at mali sa tama?

Sa kabilang banda, meron ka bang narinig na nagnakaw si Cory, nagnakaw si Noynoy, nagnakaw ang mga kapatid ni Noynoy? Paminsan-minsan si Kris ay nagnanakaw ng eksena, pero pwede na rin nating palampasin yon. Paminsan-minsan din, si Noynoy ay nagnanakaw ng halik, pero pwedeng-pwede nating palampasin yon.

Ano’ng tawag mo dyan? Di ba Tama laban sa Mali? Di ba Kagandahang Asal laban sa Asal-aso? Di ba Good vs. Evil?

Pinangako ko sa sarili ko na kapag tumugon si Noynoy Aquino sa hamon ng panahon, susulatin ko ang kolum na ito. Tagalog pa rin dahil me mga bagay na masasabi mo lang na swak na swak sa lingwaheng malapit sa puso o bituka mo.

May araw din ang taongbayan.

’Yan ang naisip ko sa Club Filipino noong nakaraang Miyerkoles. no, i am not yet married

friends in facebook have been asking me if i got married because of the change in my surname.but no, barrozo is actually my mom's maiden name. i am planning to change my family name because loresca is my dad's name and he's drifted since i was four so i figured, why the hell use a missing guy's name? i should use something more proper -- the barrozos are family, not dad's.

the legal stuff that comes with changing it has not yet started since i need to retrieve the necesarry documents first. mayet told me i need to get dad's birth certificate too. piece of cake. but should i look up a death certificate too? i am not sure if he's still alive. i wonder what i'd feel if i did get one.

i remember i always chide adrian whenever he goes someplace new and he doesnt make prior arrangements on his hotel accommodation. i always ask him why guys live that, bara-bara na lang.kung saan maabutan ng gabi.

well, surprise, surprise!because am gonna do just that this week.am going to koronadal city without any idea where am gonna sleep.my best bet is in a hotel.worst case? in a bus terminal.gudlak na lang sa akin.and then by mid-week am off to zambo via davao.gotta spend the night in davao becuase its an early morning flight.and since there's no big moolah for marco polo hotel anymore, am gonna make do with mtrc, a govt training dorm inside the compound of davao medical school foundation. but there's no guarantee since its always full there.so goodluck again.

i just hope the documents that i ought to retrieve will all be in electronic file.or else.hell on earth again.

i remember what Hawk said in G.I.Joe:

"when all else fails... we dont."

i just hope i dont too.

someone from my family thought of eating goat meat for sunday lunch and invited everyone so we had a family gathering last weekend. it was a nice time to catch up with each other's lives. a cousin is graduating this year from a nursing course. an uncle brought home his nikon d700 and let me take some shots.he also gave me some tips on long exposure, aperture and stuff. another cousin whose into science class in highschool has a thesis --hell yeah-- on making bamboo shoot as a food supplement. muntik ng dumanak ang dugo when she started talking about chemical analysis, capsules and microwave.and then the talk shifted to her preferred course in college. intarmed in up manila.nothing but.

we had caldereta, pinapaitan, kilawin and my favorite: sinampalukang ulo.downed with mugs of red horse. in the middle of all this, i noticed my 11 year old cousin who wasnt touching any of the dishes except for the pork barbecue. i asked him why, and this was his reply:

"a goat is not one of my pets. i only eat my pets, ya know."

like dogs and cats?

"yeah."

i dunno where he got that line, but it sure made me laughing so hard! haha.

oh, and by the way, he is already a freshman in a public high school. got accelerated twice in grade school. he shares the same genes with my bamboo-shoot-food-supplement-intarmed-in-the-making cousin. he did magic tricks when he was done eating, and announced to the world later on that he already has a girlfriend.

"not a geek after all, yeah?," was what his dad could only say.

to which an uncle countered, "alam ba niya rafael?"

adeeeek! =)

anyhoo, we watched transformers after lunch. and while we were still setting up the dvd, i asked him if he's already watched kung fu panda. he said yes and dragged me to their kitchen. showed me their cupboard. in one of his mom's tupperwares, he made this label:

he's still a kid after all.

zamboanga itinerary

i've been sitting in the office for a month now without any out of town trip and i must admit that i am bored. and since ceb pac and pal's websites are bookmarked in my browser, i decided to check their pages yesterday. surprise, surprise! ceb pac is offering 50% discount on their fares. checked zambo... 2,500 roundtrip. now all i have to do is finish the questionnaire so i would have good enough reason for a travel order to tawi-tawi and sulu.yihee! i just wish the security situation would be ok. but hey, zambo is the home base so i decided to check out some good beaches there.

while it is true that adrian lives in zambo, we havent had enough time to actually go to the beaches. just la vista del mar, which i didnt quite enjoy because its kinda populated.

so this is the most amazing discovery i had: A PINK SAND BEACH! how cool is that huh?

so according to this blog,

A pink sand beach is very rare and there are only a few of them around the globe. They can be found in Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda, 3 islands from the Bahamas, Culebra in Puerto Rico, Maui in Hawaii, Santorini in Greece, Barbuda in the Carribean, Crane Beach in Barbados, and here in The Great Santa Cruz Islands in the Philippines.

So how did this beach got its pink sand qualities? It’s mainly because of these endangered Red Organ-Pipe Corals. From eons of natural surf erosion, these red organ-pipe corals were pulverized and mixed with the white sands resulting to its colorization. These corals are considered rare due to it’s unique qualities of a soft coral having a hard skeleton.

so there. am off to that pink sand beach in august! who's coming with me? =)

masakit ang dysmenorrhea sis.waaa.about the cysts naman, its ok having them around, basta il start taking pills next month.three months yun and then il go back to the OB to have it checked again.

she can prescribe some meds if i want to have a baby na daw. dunno lang how effective these meds are. plus il get a second opinion on this one.

i suggest everyone should visit an OB so you would all know how to deal with your health issues.dati i was so afraid going to the OB but now i realized na i should have done it noon pa.

my visit to the OB

i had been suffering from dysmenorrhea since last weekend so i decided to visit the OB yesterday. it was a brave act for me because i so dread going to the doctor. being the chicken that i am, i had to beg one of my friends to be with me.

according to the doctor, i was born with a retroverted uterus. which means my uterus tilts backwards, pointing to the spine instead of the other way. this causes my dysmenorrhea. she also told me i have polycystic ovaries, where there are many small cysts in my ovaries. the eggs do not mature so they form cysts. i would have to undergo medical treatment just to get pregnant.

when i learned about this i immediately texted panda, where i made it a bit exaggerated. sabi niya, "ok lang yan, we could always adopt a kid.at para hindi na dumami ang maldita sa mundo." hahaha.

si mama naman: "get a second opinion from your tita's OB."
so i asked her, "bakit, gusto mo na ba akong magkaanak?"
no reply yet as of press time. hihi. naloka ang lola mo!

and so i was feeling a little down yesterday. and what better way to cheer me up than go shopping! i bought new purple ipanema flip flops.happiness! =)

after touching down at naia on the last flight from davao, i texted adrian. (i was being a brat again so that was the first text in two days)

me: where are you?
ian: davao.just arrived this morning.

me: waaaaaat???just landed here in mnla!we tuk the last flight frm dvo.
ian: bakit hindi mo sinabi na pupunta ka ng davao?
me: ....
ian: ayan kasi, inaaway mo ako lagi.

a few moments ago i was chatting with a cousin whose family is based in surigao. i was telling her about an aunt who came home from abroad because she had to see her doctor here.tapos she told me that her mom also had to undergo a medical procedure recently.

me: did she go to davao for it?
cuz: uhmm.. yeah.
me: i was there last week!
cuz: oh.that was when she had her operation.

sheesh.
